Digital Revolution: Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker and earlier generations

Maybe a surprise to you, but this is going to be my first trip to Switzerland. Today I embark on a (frustratingly long) flight to Geneva for two important shows. First is the highly exclusive SIHH 2010, put on indirectly by the Richemont Group to celebrate mostly its brands. This gala style event is apparently very high-class, and of course, as always, "by invitation only." I do consider myself lucky having be asking to attend. There I will mingle and see new for 2010 releases of many brands, just a few of which are Audemars Piguet (not part of Richemont), A. Lange & Sohne, Cartier, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Greubel Forsey (also not part of Richemont I understand), Van Cleef & Arpels, Richard Mille (not part of Richemont), IWC, and many more!

This is a very fine watch from China. I've mostly been exposed to low quality Chinese watches that I think have skewed my perception of what the country in capable of. Don't let the mass amount of not so great Chinese watches overshadow the good stuff that is available.

So going back to the F.P. Journe and Jaquet Droz situation. In 2004 FP. Journe apparently accused Jaquet Droz of copying the looks of its Octa Automatic watch - that has a small frame secured with three screws over the smaller hours and minutes, with a second subdial in the middle of the watch dial. It is really the three screws and their "figure 8" layout which FP. Journe was accusing Jaquet Droz of copying. Everything I have read about this situation was translated from French, so I am doing my best to understand it all. Based on the language, it appears at though the issue was based around copyright - but it could have trademark infringement elements in it. This is because the FP Journe Octa watch featured this design, and they could have made the argument that there is a consumer association between the design and the brand. Trademark protection is all about product or service origination association, and (real or likely) consumer confusion.

Actually all this pomp and circumstance a round the selling and unveiling of watches is a good thing. Horus founder Andre Grossman obviously knows how to put on an impressive show, and if you look at the Horus website, you can tell that he goes after where the money is. See link to the site below. Probably exactly what I would do. Also check out the cool watch box that the Horus Ultramarinum comes in. There is obviously some eletcro machinery at work there. It looks like the top opens and closes by itself. Maybe it is like those fancy trashcans you can get at Bed Bath & Beyond that open with a mere waive of your wrist. Do you think Horus likes being compared to things you can get at Bed Bath & Beyond? I doubt it. Do they have those in Monaco? Would it have marble floors? At the very least we know that you can move the lever on the front of the watch case at it will open. Not just that, but the watch actually lifts out of the box on a pedestal for you to pick up. Get it? Fancy....

Select Mondaine Watches From JCK That I Liked

Select Mondaine Watches From JCK That I Liked

In addition to that, the sound from the Arena Metasonic is supposed to be amazing. Using that software they made, they really did their homework in trying to make the watch perfect. I love the effort they put into this stuff. It is like collective knowledge to perfect the industry we love, an industry that theoretically doesn't need to exist, but I love that it does. It is a few steps above the concept of someone having a PhD in the Klingon language, only here is it expertise in what metals to use when trying to make a watch sing its best! I just love it.

A new watch from a new company called Red8 celebrates this concept. The idea comes from a European man with deep experience in the watch making world, while the watch is produced, proudly so, in Asian, and with a Japanese movement. The Red8 watch is more than just some new style of watch, it is a statement and closer to new concept of watch. One thing in recent pop culture reminds me of what the Red8 watch is all about. Remember the craze that Lance Armstrong's yellow "Livestrong" rubber bracelet made. You saw just so many people wearing them. Then you saw legions of other companies take the same concept and make it their own. It was a fun way of accessorizing your look with a message.

Swiss Made Breitling Replica Watches

I really love the case that Prometheus provides with the Ocean Diver watch (they give you a T-Shirt as well). It is brown leather, and  folds open while it is secured by an elastic loop. The housing for the watch is really firm - protecting it from shocks or being smooshed in luggage. The soft inside will also protect the watch's finish. In all, the Ocean Diver delivers on its promise, a nicely made, highly functional, true diver's watch with a Swiss movement for a reasonable price. At 5 (339 euros) it is hard to beat what you get here. Plus, the watch is a limited edition of 500 pieces giving it an addition level of exclusivity. For all that I give the watch an aBlogtoRead.com good value award. You can get an Ocean Diver watch directly from Prometheus's website here.

The dial is where you will be spending more of your visual time. You can tell that the dial is sectioned off into a few years. There are three vertical levels, and there is a peripheral temperature gauge. The default screen shows the time (in either 12 or 24 hour format) and the date. There is no seconds display. You can tell that the Elementum Aqua has a pusher where the crown would normally be, and a crown located at 2 o’clock. The crown is pretty cool, and operates like a rotating selector. You turn the crown to make settings changes and change the screens. When you twist the crown, it makes a slight by reassuring little click — this is a nice detail. Further, the crown is large enough and placed in a manner making it easy to operate with gloves (if you want to switch back to view the time while underwater). Normally the crown rotates the default and dive log screen. How the crown down and you enter the settings mode when you can adjust the time, date, etc… Of course you can also set the watch to the metric system as well as standard. Holding down the pusher normally activates the very good backlight. Also, the watch features an alarm function that is pretty easy to use.

Rolex Submariner Replica Online

Other ideas do work, such as Yvan's Titanic DNA watch for Romain Jerome. The watches worked so well, that they not only saved the dying Romain Jerome brand a few years ago, but catapulted it into a money making phenomenon with an incredible series of back orders. Flash to July 2009, and Yvan Arpa is forced out of the company by a disgruntled board of directors. Seemingly fett up with Arpa less than conservative personality. He and his managing team were out. The move was very strange, because Yvan WAS the Romain Jerome brand, and without him, the company was likely to wither away once the Titanic DNA concept became stale.

Selecting The Right Diving Watch….

What brands should take into account before launching an application

TX Watches Of Interest For 2009 At JCK Las Vegas Watch Releases

The Culinary watch is the first timepiece from Morpheus and is not meant to be a timepiece that helps you cook. Instead, it is a watch that is meant to thematically remind you of a professional kitchen environment. At the same time, the watch is designed in such a manner that it does not scream "kitchen." This means that the "culinary" components of the watch are present, but subtle. So while you can't wear your "Kiss the Cook" apron out to a steakhouse, you can do so with a Morpheus Culinary watch just fine - or anywhere else for that matter.

Sports Legends In Time…

Now this is a nice diving watch. I find it refreshing to see a simple and straight forward design execution such as this. What else would you expect from JeanRichard, Girard Perregaux's baby brand? The Diverscope JR1000 watch has the sensibility of somewhere between a Rolex Submariner and a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. The design is not quite as refined as those two, but the look is really fantastic and the straight-forwardness of the design is appealing and welcome. The Diverscope is watch from the 1960's and here is a modern rendition of the look. Me liking it, as well as the other aforementioned diving watches probably means I like retro design better than moderns design! But hey, a lot of modern diver's watches are way to cluttered and "noisy." Too much going on is distracting and will prevent a watch from being a favored daily wear.

Look at the sapphire crystal, and you'll see that it is meant to emulate the raised and rounded look of an acrylic crystal, but it is in fact sapphire. You then have the chronograph pushers that are just like those seen on models from the 1940's - though very useful still. There is also the size of the watch that is 41mm wide. This might actually seem quite medium by today's standards, but is a good size for those many people who rightfully worry about watches that are too big looking on their wrist.

Marvin M103 Watch Review

Marvin M103 Watch Review

I am adding a few images of two RM016 watches that I got to model myself. Showing you the size and presence of the watch. The case which is mostly flat and curved at the edges with a recessed center like a ice cream sandwich is 38mm wide and 49.8mm tall. Also thin (of course) at about 8.25mm thick. The watches I have on are still wrapped in plastic. By the way, I checked those watches out at Chatel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. The specific version I am mentioning on James List is the white gold version, but the watch looks good in both tones, and is handsome on a variety of straps. Really one of Richard Mille's most universal designs.

DWATCH is a newer watch maker that has a few cool diver's watches that I've seen here and there, but didn't think muc of them until now.  I finally saw some real images of one taken by a WatchUSeek member as getting one himself. The watch is surprisingly nice, and for 0, is a fair price for what is bound to be a very rare limited edition watch that is 1000 meters water resistant. It sort of exudes classic diver watch - even the name of the brand "DWATCH" is so generic that it just adds to tool nature of the timepiece. It is one of those perfect watches for people who like the watch to speak for itself - without help from a brand name.

A Very Rare Omega Speedmaster '150th Anniversary of Omega'

While quartz watches dominate the market today, they are arguably less "emotional" and refined than mechanical watches. Which is why enthusiasts just seem to prefer mechanical watches more (even the people at Seiko as their best watches are mechanical or mechanical in spirit). However, that was not the case when the Quartz Seiko Astron was initially released. It was a unique piece of highly sophisticated technology, and only Seiko had what it took (lots of patience and dedication) to make it happen. It a lot of hard work and 10 years of time isn't emotion, then I don't know what is. For that reason some of the classic quartz watches like the Seiko Astron and ones like it are of the most interesting quartz watches to inspect and own as a collector. www.seikousa.com

Inside the watch is an automatic mechanical movement and the watch itself is water resistant to 100 meters. This is a higher-end sports model from Cartier as it is in gold, and there is also a chronograph version available. You may opt for an alligator strap that I am sure can be attained (watch has a 22mm wide strap). Retail price is a bout ,000, but you can usually find it from ,000 - ,000. All part of the cost of Cartier ownership.
